Help Save The Moon Bears
I recently spent a week at the inspiring Animals Asia Moon Bear Sanctuary in China. The sanctuary is home to 168 bears who have previous lived their life trapped in cages being milked for their bile. Their lives were once pure torture but the rescued bears now live with the respect they deserve.
This was my second visit to the sanctuary and it is always an emotional time– on one hand you see evidence of cruelty to animals that you would not think possible. To witness first hand, the injuries sustained by these gorgeous creatures at the hands of human beings is truly depressing. But on the other hand, I see humans at their best-the staff at Animals Asia Foundation are among the most caring, passionate people I have ever met- their lives devoted to one common goal, not just to end bear bile farming for ever but also to let the magnificent creatures who reside at the sanctuary live the rest of their days in peace with the dignity they deserve.
What is probably the most remarkable thing at the sanctuary is the spirit of the bears. These grand creatures have endured so much pain and torture and many of them are disabled as a result of injuries sustained....but yet at the sanctuary they seem so calm and peaceful. Each bear has its own unique story and its own personality. To me it is like they know they have been given a second chance at life.
You can help to end bear faming forever. There are 7000 moonbears imprisoned on farms in China but with your support we hoping that this trade will be made illegal by the Beijing Olympics. Every letter you write or donation you make will help.
