Charlotte Rose joins the family
My life has been very hectic since the arrival of my beautiful little girl, Charlotte Rose Darcy. She was born on 11/08/07,weighing in at 3.6kgs and as healthy as can be.
The first couple of months were a wonderful blur- getting to know her, nuturing her and of course feeding around the clock. She is a wonderful addition to my life and I treasure every moment I have with her.
Until Charlotte,I admit that my pets were my 'fur-kids' and took up most of my spare time. I was worried about how they would react and if I would still be able to give them the care and attention they need. I spent a lot of time preparing them in advance which included training Toby and Archie to walk behind the pram, making the dogs lie on their mats for longer periods at night, constantly training them to commands such as stay and drop, setting up the nursery in advance so they could explore before the bub arrived. Preparation is definitely the key when it comes to a pets and a new bub and luckily everything has gone smoothly for me.
Toby has been wonderful but I always new he would be...he is so dependable and easy now that he is an older boy. He sits by my feet during night feeds and it is so lovely for me to have my faithful friend with me during those many hours in the night.
My young dog, Archie is only a year old and he is the one I was most worried about becauseI just dont have the same amount of time to exercise and train him. We do loads of pram walking though and luckily, im in a position to get some help and I have had walkers and trainers help look after him. He is doing really well and he is spoilt rotten with chewy toys and treats which I give him whenever baby is around. This way he sees her as a positive addition to his life.
Milly, my cat was a little put out for about a week but she has also settled in nicely. I have a baby gate across the nursery door to stop her having access as I have no doubt she would view the cot as a snuggly bed for her.
It is definitely going to be busy times ahead but I wouldnt change it for anything- my furry friends still give me so much pleasure,so i just have to be superorganised to fit them into my daily schedule.
As for Charlotte Rose- what a bundle of joy she is. She is such a happy baby and has enriched my life beyound belief-I am so lucky to have her.
The key with pets is to plan ahead and be diligent with your training. You can never be too careful.
